Appirio Dreamforce T-Shirts are back...with a twist!

Posted by Appirio On 9-12-2013

We know that many of you love collecting the Appirio Dreamforce T-Shirt. This year we will be giving away collectable, one of a kind shirts at different times throughout the confernce. Follow us at @appirio on twitter to find out when.

Dreamforce T-Shirts

Two ways to win $1,000 for wearing our t-shirt this year!

Posted by Kirk Crenshaw On 8/30/2011 09:50:00 AM
Appirio has been known to give out a t-shirt or two over the last few years (thousands to be exact). In 2009, we started the tradition of giving our Dreamforce t-shirts with slogans like “Friends don’t let friends buy servers.” In 2010, we upped the ante by giving away the slogan t-shirts and encouraging people to wear them with $1000 cash that was given away randomly to a few people. It caused quite the stir! So in 2011, we’re upping the ante by giving away $5000 to 5 lucky people wearing our t-shirts. What?? $5,000 you say?! How do I win?

Here’s how you can win.

Step one is to pick up your t-shirt. They’re free, we promise. Go to Appirio booth #420 and ask for your t-shirt slip. Bring that slip, or your bag insert, to room #P9 (downstairs from registration) to get a t-shirt with one of these four slogans:
  • To cloud or not to cloud...there is no question
  • Cloud: Nothing else matters (in honor of Metallica)
  • Cloud can’t fix stupid (but it sure helps)
  • Does this shirt make my cloud look big
These were all crowdsourced from our internal community and Twitter followers.

Step two is to wear your shirt on Thursday. You can wear it every day if you want, but Thursday is when we’ll be giving out prizes.

You can win one of two ways:
  • By getting lucky. Similar to years past we’ll be giving away $1000 to three lucky people randomly throughout the day. Be sure to follow us on Twitter, our Facebook page or on our Dreamforce Chatter group for tips on where we’ll be giving out the cash.
  • By getting social. In honor of Dreamforce’s social enterprise theme, we’ve created another way to win the money. Simply find or gather as large of a group as possible of people wearing Appirio t-shirts, take a photo and post it to our Chatter page. We’ll be selecting the two individuals who post the picture with the most people and awarding them $1000 each. Feel free to get creative. If there’s a tie, the winner will be chosen based on creativity.
Good luck!

100 Appirio people getting ready to "get social" at Dreamforce.

Posted by Narinder On 8/29/2011 04:03:00 PM
Cool parties - check.  Great mobile apps - check.  100 cloud experts ready to get crazy social at all hours of the day and night - check.

We are spending time getting ready for more cool announcements, inspiring customer stories, and much much more at Dreamforce.  So if you talk to any appirio person at the event, you know they will be ready !

Goal of Dreamforce 2011 - Have Fun !

Posted by Narinder On 8/26/2011 01:04:00 AM
We focus so much on all the work to do to prepare for Dreamforce, or how you are possible going to make the most out of the trip and learn everything about thousands of content,  that the essence can be lost.  This year is about the social enterprise.  Its about being social, mobile, and open.

Given that, let me humbly offer you should make sure you have fun.  Let Dreamforce roll over and embrace you.  Go to a session, meet new people who are in different roles or industries.   Talk about parties during a session, and Apex code during a party at night.  Most of all, don't attend Dreamforce, experience it.  Use the apps, play with demos, challenge yourself to configure/code, and remember the technology is only fantastic if it helps you do something you are passionate about.

And if you are passionate about the technology, well then remember to be thankful for the time you live in, the freedom and creativity the cloud has enabled, and the fact that for a few days you will be at the very epicenter of cloud Innovation.  Dreamforce 2011 - the freedom to dream !

An oldie but a goodie...

Our crowd knows how to party at Dreamforce

Posted by Appirio On 8/17/2011 09:42:00 AM
by Narinder Singh

If you’ve been to Dreamforce at some point during the last ten years, you’ve likely noticed some changes. The hottest cloud conference has attracted more sponsorships, attendees and increasingly great entertainment. In 2002 Pride & Joy became the first band to entertain the Dreamforce audience (just over a thousand). The Dreamforce of 2001 is a stark comparison to its 2011 version that includes Metallica, Will.I.Am, Alanis Morisette, Jay Leno and much more.  Yet for the social amongst us, the best addition to the growth of Dreamforce is its ever-growing party scene.

I actually think the night scene is a great place to get work done - meet future customers, partners, employees and bosses; learn about the coolest new apps, and pick up tips from everyone.  That said, there were enough open bars last year to make any conference goer forget their professional intentions. With the numerous after-expo events growing so fast,  we decided to create a mobile app to help you manage your busy social schedule.

If you follow our Appirio blog, we’ve been talking about a ton of cool, creative things that have come out of our cloud developer community, CloudSpokes. Our Dreamforce mobile party app project needed to be created fast and on a budget - two elements that typically make for a good CloudSpokes contest. We tasked the CloudSpokes community with a mobile Dreamforce party app challenge and needless to say, we are ever impressed with the results.

Just two weeks and $2,000 later, we have a great app that will be a must have for all 25,000 of you coming to the biggest cloud computing convening of the Year.  So, this is your cue to download the app, test it out, upload a party if you don’t see it, and plot your after-hours game plan.

We have some other mobile surprises up our sleeve, but this is the most useful one for you right now. Go get it!

Here are our recommended sessions for Cloud Powered Innovation - enterprises delivering business results through mobile, social, and cross-cloud technology in the enterprise.

For those of you that have been reading this blog, you know two things:

1.  We love to throw cool parties and this year's Casino Royale at the SF MOMA will be off the charts
2.  We're into Pop Art.  Its cool, relevant, and fits with our theme for Dreamforce.

We recently ran an informal contest for the Girly Geeks that if they could create cool captions for some of our pop art they could win a slot at the Casino Royale party. Our Dreamforce Chatter group exploded with a fantastic set of submissions. So we decided to show off the power of CloudSpokes and build a social app out of the whole thing.

To do that we created popart.appirio.com !  You can go to this site, and submit your idea for captions against any of our templates and win tickets to our Casino Royale party or even cold, hard cash.

The results submit to a picassa web album, where you can check out what people have been doing and vote on what you think should be the winning entry (via "likes").

Ownin' it at Dreamforce

Posted by Sal Partovi On 8/11/2011 11:53:00 AM
Ownin' it at Dreamforce. With dance moves like this, you too can own it (love ya, MN!).

Our own amazing Brandy Colmer made this video of some of the great cast and characters from last year's Dreamforce - we just had to share it.

Can't wait to see all these familiar faces again this year, at the event and at our Casino Royale Afterparty. Owning it takes practice, so make sure you've got the will.i.am on the tunes and your dancing shoes on.

Announcing Appirio's Casino Royale at the SFMOMA, this year's must attend party at Dreamforce 2011! Think sleek, sexy, BOND-- with the sophistication of SFMOMA and the excitement of 007. We expect it to be one of our best parties yet!

What is going on this year?

We will be transforming the SFMOMA into the Casino Royale - with the ever popular Caesars casino, a nightclub with DJs spinning grooves deep into the night and live entertainment!

Our Sponsors

Caesars will be sponsoring the casino once again at this year's event, and will be awarding some great prizes.

Our friends at Zuora and FinancialForce.com will also be there to help us make this THE party to attend at this year's Dreamforce!

How do I get an invite?
  1. If you'd like to request an invitation to the party, please add your name to our wait list: http://thecloud.appirio.com/CasinoRoyaleWait.html. We will process the wait list requests on a first come, first served basis, but do not guarantee an invitation.
  2. Join our DF Chatter Group, and make your case.  The more creative and funny, the better :)
  3. We will also have other ways to win - keep your eyes peeled here, and on our DF Chatter Group.
Event details:

Wednesday, August 31, 2011
8:30pm–2:00 am
SFMOMA - 151 Third Street (between Mission and Howard)

If you received an invitation and have not RSVP'd, please do so as soon as possible!

Dreamforce Visitors Guide to Food and Fun

Posted by Appirio On 8/09/2011 11:37:00 PM
We know everyone loves the Dreamforce box lunches as much as the next cloud developer, but where should you go if you want something a little more special? Well, we’re here to help. We surveyed our local employees, and put together this list of places to eat, drink and see when you have some free time at this year’s Dreamforce.

Things to EAT/DRINK:

Walking Distance:
  • Town Hall: A short walk from the Moscone Center, Town Hall is a restaurant with some great dishes and drinks. Home-made sodas, fried chicken, and jalapeno cornbread are among our favorites. Serves lunch or dinner.
  • Brickhouse Cafe: A couple block walk towards the ballpark gets you to Brickhouse. This place has some great sandwich, burger, salad option for lunch and also serves dinner.
  • Osha Thai: With many locations in SF, this Thai food chain knows what they are doing. The closest location to Dreamforce is on 2nd Street, and is worth the couple block walk. Try the Volcanic Beef and Lychee Martinis.
  • The American Grilled Cheese Company: Two Words: GRILLED CHEESE! Take a walk and go grab one of the many options.
  • Michael Mina's RN74: Great Restaurant. Make a reservation, and maybe take a cab if you are a little tired from a long day walking around Dreamforce. The tuna crudo and fried green tomatoes are great picks.
  • Mel’s Diner/Denny’s: Great for some good familiar diner food. Denny’s is THE place to find Appirians late night after the parties end.
  • Blue Bottle Coffee: One of THE BEST coffee places in SF. The line is a little long during the morning hours, so give yourself some time if you are headed here.
  • Off the Grid Civic Center/UN Plaza: You may know that Appirians like their food trucks, and Off the Grid is a local gathering of food trucks for your lunchtime enjoyment. Lunch is served Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at UN Plaza and the San Francisco Civic Center. This may be a little far for a walk, but you can take the Muni or a cab and be there in 5 minutes.
  • 21st Amendment Brewery: Great beer, good food, right near the ballpark. The Watermelon Wheat may sound a little girly, but dat’s one tasty beer! They have some outdoor seating for drinking on nice days too.
Cab/Muni Distance:
  • Delfina: One of our favorite restaurants in SF. This place is #superfrickenawesome Italian food. Make a reservation ahead of time, because it’s hard to get in here. Luckily they also have an equally amazing pizza place next door called Pizzeria Delfina that is first come first serve.
  • Woodhouse Fish Company: A New England Clam Shack type restaurant. Fried clams, lobstah rolls, and Scrimshaw Pilsner. Get some.
  • Bourbon & Branch: Make a reservation on their website (because they are required), and hop in a cab to go to one of SF’s only “speakeasy’s”. This place is drinks only, and for small groups, but the drink menu is pages upon pages, and the cocktails do not disappoint. BONUS: If you show up early, they will walk you through a “Bookcase Door” to the “Library”, where you can have a drink while you wait for your table to be ready.
  • Magnolia Pub & Brewery: Located in the Haight Ashbury district in San Francisco, Magnolia has some great food, and some even better beer (brewed in the basement). Try the burger and the Proving Ground IPA (7% ABV so watch out if you have a 8AM session). No reservations at this place, so get their early and put your name on the list.
  • Boboquivari's: Known as Bobo’s, this place serves bone-in filet mignon that make the mouth water.
  • Harris’ Restaurant: STEAKS! Lots of steaks. Mmmmmmmm...steak. They have some aged rib-eyes that are worth the cab ride alone.
Things to DO:
  • Check out the REAL crookedest street in SF (not Lombard), Vermont St.
  • Walk around the Ferry Building, food, shops, gifts, etc
  • Go to the SFMOMA. Known for hosting the Appirio Dreamforce party this year, and also housing some amazing works of art, and a cafe with a roof deck. If you have a couple hours to kill, walk over from the Moscone Center and check it out.
  • AT&T Park is a short distance from the Moscone Center and home to the World Champion San Francisco Giants
We hope you have some free time to enjoy the city. If you are local, or a Dreamforce regular and have some favorite places we missed, please post them in the comments section.

Want to see how Appirio is preparing for Dreamforce 2011?  We're "Deploying Cloud CRM", that's how.  It's easy, really.  Just go cloud, and everything else will work itself out naturally - or will it?  :-)

Each year we choose a theme to organize our presence at Dreamforce. This year we looked at what was happening in the world around us for inspiration. We looked at everything from the political and economic challenges around the world, how nations came together to overcome national disasters and better enable a sustainable environments, and how our lives were being changed day in and day out from new technologies that were forcing us to become increasingly mobile, social and connected 24/7.

Taking all of this in, we knew we wanted our Dreamforce theme to convey something more than just our corporate positioning and offerings. We wanted to capture the power and need for change across technology, business, politics, philanthropy and popular culture. At the same time, we of course needed it to connect with what we provide to those attending Dreamforce.

We decided that this year was going to be all about Freedom. The freedom to innovate, the freedom to change (IT, business, the world), freedom to think differently and act differently. It’s about what freedom creates, how the cloud and social technologies enable freedom, etc. We then started thinking about how we could show this in a powerful way that wasn’t the same old boring corporate stuff people were tired of seeing. We took some inspiration from one of our favorite customers, The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and decided on Pop Art.

American Pop Art was a product of the social revolution of the 1960’s. It’s associated with everyday images that connected people, instead of the esoteric and closed world of more classical predecessors. It’s strongly linked with the rise and globalization of pop music and youth culture, epitomized by Elvis and the Beatles. Pop art was brash and fun and represented innovation without constraint, and showed the power of connecting people in a more open way.

It reminds us of the revolution we are experiencing in the world of technology - by freeing ourselves from the on-premise past we can create cloud-powered businesses - organizations that themselves embody the innovation, effectiveness and agility we associate with the cloud. What better to tie into our theme and Dreamforce’s of enabling a world that is social, mobile and open.

That means we will be bringing you imagery inspired by the leaders of the Pop Art movement - legends like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring and others. We will run a ton of contests that give away thousands of dollars in prizes in ways that encourage you to be creative, free, social, mobile and connected. We are running fantastic events for our customers and friends at pop art inspired venues like the San Francisco MOMA and 12 Gallagher Lane

And most exciting to us, we will be encouraging social change through our sponsorship of the concert benefit for the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and many other exciting Appirio Silver Lining initiatives. So join us and celebrate your freedom in the cloud !

You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world

-Beatles, Revolution
